Muir Woods in California
I spent a partial day of Memorial Weekend 2010 in Muir Woods National Monument. This is not my first time visiting a redwood forest, but seeing the magnificence of these trees is a experience not to be missed.
We drove into Mill Valley and stopped at a free parking lot to catch the Route 66 Muir Woods Shuttle. It costs a mere $3 per person for a round trip bus ride. A downside of the shuttle is the bus schedule may limit the amount of time you can stay at the park, as the last shuttle out of the park does not coincide with the park’s closure. So if you’re down for a longer hike, it might be better to drive directly to the park. An upside is the route route from the shuttle to the park is a long windy road, so you’ll get to leave the driving to the bus driver. Due to the long windy roads, no passengers a permitted to stand (all passengers must have a seat).
The park itself is just spectacular. To make it better, Memorial weekend 2010 in Mill Valley was cool and clear day! There were some steep trails, but also some leisurely flat trails that were well paved that followed a nice river. The paths (in the beginning portions) are mostly shaded by the tall trees too. We even had a deer sighting (four of them)! Below are some pictures I have from that day!
- Park Entrance
- River Shot
- Crossing Trees
- Deer!
- Very Old Tree
- Very Tall Trees
